San Francisco is home to many historic venues, and for some reason when I was creating my list, I wrote Cafe Du Nord down as one of those venues I’d love to visit soon. Built in 1906, Du Nord has a history as a brothel, a speakeasy, and the meeting place of secret societies.
I couldn’t put off a visit to Cafe Du Nord any longer when I found out that two bands that I know and love were playing on the same night as a combined effort to support the documentary film, Recovering Irma. This documentary is an independent film project, aimed at breaking the silence of domestic violence by lending a contemporary voice to a family’s complex inheritance.
I was also introduced to Lion Riding Horses, another local rock band.
It was a Sunday night, and I had work the next day, so I didn’t stay out for too long. Here’s a photograph to document the moment I finally crossed this “to do” off my list!
