While Ryan is busy getting drunk and hit on by random girls in Vegas, I am being productive this weekend by taking Sasha out for walks in the rain and taking a class on gray water. Never mind that huge mess at home. I found a new place to take Sasha on off-leash walks [always a plus] and know a little more about gray water than I did this morning.
San Francisco has a Laundry-to-Landscape Graywater Program that assists residents in turning the washer into a dual purpose machine to both wash your clothes and to water your garden. The program offers a subsidy towards the cost of a laundry-to-landscape graywater kit, as well as a course to get you started.

I attended the introductory course today, which was taught by Laura Allen of Greywater Action. There was a lot of good information, which I can hopefully implement. As part of the program, Laura is actually coming by the house to provide a consultation.
I pretty much signed up on a whim, so I’m not sure yet what we’ll be doing in the backyard, but it’s good to know that creating this kind of system isn’t difficult. You have to know a few things beforehand, like how much water you’re using each week, how many plants you want to water this way, and how much space you’ll need around them.
I can’t remember it all off the top of my head, so it’s a good thing they gave us this manual.

If you are in San Francisco and want more information about the program, check it out here.
