Being able to parallel park.
If you drive in this city, unless you plan on circling the blocks for hours, you’d better know how to parallel park. It’s difficult enough for those who can parallel park, but really there aren’t that many “pull-up” spots around here for those who cannot.
If you mention parallel parking to my mother, she will recount the story of how she set up cones on the street to teach me how to parallel park. I don’t like to give her all the credit, so I like to say that I really learned on my own, though practicing with her cones was “helpful.”
