Being able to parallel park.

If you drive in this city, unless you plan on circling the blocks for hours, you’d better know how to parallel park. It’s difficult enough for those who can parallel park, but really there aren’t that many “pull-up” spots around here for those who cannot.

If you mention parallel parking to my mother, she will recount the story of how she set up cones on the street to teach me how to parallel park. I don’t like to give her all the credit, so I like to say that I really learned on my own, though practicing with her cones was “helpful.” ;)

For those who still need a little help, check out this video.

I wasn’t any good at it until I moved here. Where I grew up, you were a peasant if you parked along any street at all ;)

I’ve got a driving test coming up next week. I haven’t parallel parked in ages, and I’m too lazy to practice. I give myself 50/50 odds of passing.

We should set up some cones for you! But no worries – they don’t test parallel parking in the CA test.

I love being able to parallel park! I’m so proud of my skill — seriously. I credit SF 100%. It was all out of sheer necessity.

SF makes me wish I had a really small car sometimes, so I could take advantage of ‘possible’ spaces that my forester just won’t fit in.

I am not great at it, but I’m decent enough. I thank my poor dad for trying to teach me when I was 15! I just hate it when people who cant do it try. dude, its not bumper cars!

I would definitely have to get a vehicle that had automatic parking to survive. I couldn’t parallel park a car if my life depended on it. I totally failed it. lol

I can parallel park, either first time or about 5th; there’s no “happy medium” on that one. I can reverse park into a space at right angles just about first time every time though, but that’s not a skill there’s much call for in the Yousay.

I was afraid to parallel park when I was a kid, but when I went to UCSB and decided not to get an on-campus parking permit, I learned fast!

I used to have to parallel park every day at work, so I got pretty good at it. I am better at parallel parking on the “wrong” side of the street – must be because I am left handed!
