Social Kitchen & Brewery

The best part of living in a city so saturated with fantastic food and drink options is that there is almost always a “new to you” place to try if you decide not to revisit a favorite or a “safe” spot.

Last night’s new spot: Social Kitchen & Brewery.

Left: When the rest of the table’s food arrived before mine, they brought over a complimentary cup of their cauliflower curried soup. It was quite tasty.

Right: The sister ordered mussels, which were slightly overdone, but came in a yummy sauce, which she later sopped up with an order of fries.

I ordered the Short Ribs Pot Pie. Here are photos of when it arrived at the table and just a few moments later. Since I’m the piggy that I am, I cleaned up my plate.

Reviews for the place have been pretty harsh, but I had a good time, so there will likely be a revisit [if not more]. Next time, just beers and appetizers, which are both decently priced and sized. They have tempura-battered sweet potato fries, which I would definitely allow RV to try making at home in our deep fryer. He’s been looking for excuses to use the thing, and since I don’t eat many fried foods, I’ve given him every excuse not to use it! Oh, sweet potato fries – my weakness…

I was there last week and had a great time. Surprised to hear harsh reviews. My only regret is that I didn't try the short ribs, but I will remedy that soon.

Yeah, most complained about service, which I thought was great for me. They kept checking in on us, a little too much at times but also appreciated. The pot pie looked and smelled really good. Taste was a bit rich for me, and not a repeat. Everything else was fantastic though, so if I’m thinking of a place to eat and drink, I’d head back.

Oh, that looks absolutely delicious. If (or more of a matter of when) I'm in San Francisco, I'll make sure to ask you for suggestions on where to eat.

:) Yes, let me know when you’re in town. There are so many places to go, so you’ll have to help me by narrowing down what types of food when the time comes.

Wow that pot pie looks delicious. I was thinking about pot pies today. I really want to make one, and I like the idea of not making a basic chicken pot pie. Thanks for the inspiration. By the way, I am totally jealous of your amazing restaurant choices. College Station has tex mex and chain restaurants. It gets old. Quickly. It is a great thing that I love to cook!

Yeah, I am pretty lucky to be living in a place with so many options. Plus,
lots of farmers’ markets to grab fresh ingredients if we decide to cook! :)
